The secret to passing your driving test
77By following these few simple steps you will surely increase the chances of passing your driving test 1st time like me!
Firstly I would like to add that this is based on me taking the UK driving test, but i am sure some of these steps will help people taking there test elsewhere.
Step one: Research.
It may be worth researching the area you will be taking your test, this way you can assess the traffic, the road and the pedestrian facilities in that area. At the bottom of this Article I have posted a link to the direct Gov website where you can find your nearest theory test centre and practical driving test centre, test routes are also downloadable.
Step Two: Concentrate.
Driving test rules have changed and you will be required to do approximately 10 minutes independent driving. During this 10 minutes you will be required to do the following:
- Follow traffic signs
- A series of directions
- A combination of Both
To help you the examiner may show you a diagram/ map. This is meant to test your concentration skills as you may not fail on taking a wrong turn as humans make mistakes but it is your reaction to making this mistake that the examinar is testing.. For example; do you panic which leads to a driving fault? Just keep calm and your examiner will help you back on track.
Step Three: Observation.
ALWAYS check your MIRRORS. My driving instructor drummed this into my head, As observation will fail you before you even move off a yard during your driving test .Always perform the six point check before moving off. The image below shows the six areas you must check before moving off. It is also important to check your mirrors each time your examiner gives you instruction for example "at the roundabout turn right third exit" once your examiner has given this instruction check your rear view mirror and the relevant wing mirror (right mirror if right & left mirror if left), if you are on a dual carriage way it may be a good idea to quickly check your blind spot. Observation is also very important during your manoeuvres, not many people fail on manoeuvres for driving error for example parking on the kerb, but it is observation that catches people out: perform the 6 point check before moving off and sweep your head from mirror to mirror a few times whilst performing the manoeuvre and your examiner will be confident you have made a sufficient amount of observation .
SIX POINT CHECK. DO IT
Step 4: Relax, be positive and confident.
My heart was racing when as i walked up towards the car i would be taking my test in, but i took a deep breath relaxed and felt confident about my driving, If you step into the car thinking you are really going to prove to this driving instructor you are a safe independent driver than you will pass with ease. But beware confident driving doesn't mean show off, try not to be too relaxed and keep your third eye on looking out for hazards.
I am sure these four simple steps will help you pass your driving testÂ
